Rate ChangeUSPS® Increases Prices to Mail Letters and Packages on January 22, 2012The United States Postal Service increased prices for both Mailing and Shipping Services on Sunday, January 22, 2012. Overall USPS price increases average 2.1% for Mailing Services and 4.6% for Shipping Services. Priority Mail prices increase by an average 3.1% and Express Mail prices increase by an average 3.3%. Price changes affect the full range of Postal products:
The January Price Changes were headlined by a 1¢ increase in the price to mail a one-ounce, single-piece letter by First-Class Mail. The single-piece postcard rate, which increased by 1¢ to 29¢ in April 2011, increased by an additional 3¢ to 32¢. The price increase for business mailrooms that process Standard Mail Letters was kept to 1.9% – slightly less than the 2.1% overall average for Mailing Services. First-Class Mail Presorted and automation letters weighing up to 2 ounces will mail at the 1-ounce price. Additional ounce prices for letters weighing more than two ounces remain unchanged. UPS and FedEx Increase Prices on January 2, 2012 While the annual price changes for USPS Priority Mail and Express Mail shipping services that normally occur in the first week of January were delayed to also take effect on January 22, 2012, UPS and FedEx increased prices for expedited and ground shipments on Monday, January 2, 2012.
